Robert Edward Huggins is an American college basketball coach. Nicknamed "Huggy Bear", he is currently the head coach of the West Virginia Mountaineers men's basketball team. Huggins has previously held positions of head coach at Walsh College, University of Akron, University of Cincinnati and Kansas State University. On April 5, 2007, he accepted an offer to return to training at his alma mater, the University of West Virginia. After leading the Mountaineers team to the arrival of Sweet 16, Huggins signed an 11-year contract with the university after the season ended. As one of six coaches to have won at least 900 career victories, Huggins has appeared in a total of 24 NCAA tournaments, including 23 of the past 26. He has led his teams to nine Sweet Sixteen appearances, four Elite Eight appearances and two Final appearances. As of March 2018, Huggins has an average of 23 wins per season during his career. He is also the second coach to win 300 games at two schools.
